Dr. Christos Giannaros
Cyprus Ionospheric Research Group Post-doctoral researcher
Dr. Christos Giannaros is a post-doctoral researcher at FRC working on the project “Cyprus Flood Forecasting System”. Hegraduated from the School of Physics of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH) in 2011. In 2014, he completed his postgraduate studies on Atmospheric and Environmental Physics at AUTH and four years later, in 2018, he obtained his Ph.D from the same university. During his M.Sc. studies, he had the opportunity to focus his research interest on Meteorology and Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) models, while the principal aim of his doctoral dissertation was the analysis and improvement of the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model performance in the simulation of extreme hot weather conditions. It is worth mentioning that a significant part of his Ph.D. research was conducted during his visiting scholar at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, Atlanta, USA.
He has vast experience in WRF applications that require the model design, set-up and implementation, as well as the coupling with model extensions and the sensitivity analysis and evaluation of the model results, programming in Linux environment (scripting) and using the programming languages Fortran and NCAR Command Language (NCL).
